Choosing the perfect father of the bride gift
Most people will know that it was once tradition for the father of the bride to pay for the wedding. However, these days more couples are opting to foot the bill themselves and the tradition is slowly fading away.
But, whether the father of the bride pays for part, all or none of the wedding he is still an important part of the day. With the exception of the bride and groom he is a main character at any wedding day. The bride’s father is one of the first to make a speech after the wedding breakfast, he is the one that walks the bride down the aisle and gives her away and he will no doubt be the one walking around and talking to all the guests during the reception and buying them drinks.
The father of the bride has a lot of duties on the big day and on the run up to the wedding so when it comes to thank you gifts for the wedding party he is definitely one who needs to thanked with a father of the bride gift to show how much you appreciate his help and support and how important it was that he was there on your big day.
For many father of the brides this day is not only financially hard but it can also be emotionally hard. One thing that may be difficult to get to grips with is the fact that his little girl now has another main male in her life and that she now has another man to look after her and make sure she is safe. So, make sure he knows that he is still loved and appreciated on your big day.
When buying a thank you gift for the father of the bride don’t think about how much money you can spend on him, he knows how expensive weddings are and he will know you will be spending more money on your honeymoon so he won’t be expecting a big, lavish present. Keep the present small, simply a token of appreciation.
The person who knows the father of the bride best is the bride herself so it may be a good idea to consult her before deciding what to buy or go out and buy him a father of the bride gift together. Traditional father of the bride thank you gifts usually come in the form of a cufflink set or a hip flask but that doesn’t mean you have to stick to tradition.
You could buy him something connected to a hobby or passion he has, or perhaps something personal that will remind him of times spent with his daughter. Remember, to him
the bride will always be his little girl so if you want to buy something sentimental that he is sure to love then you could give him a photo frame with a picture of the father and his daughter in it.
Whichever type of father of the bride gift you go for make sure it is from the heart. The purpose of a thank you gift is to show your appreciation, love and gratitude for the wedding party and in this case for the father of the bride. If it is simply a gift you didn’t think much about then there won’t be much feeling in this, so a gift from the heart will overrule the most expensive of father of the bride gifts.
